Turns out all the world’s a room I walked for miles in my room I climbed a mountain, climbed a stair I reached the peak I’d gone nowhere In the very same moment A thought crept through my mind I thought I’d see you there How do you pass the time? The walls I sit and stare Turns out all the world is a room all the world In one little room Oh won’t you come, come around Another voice a welcome sound Come sail the sea across my floor Crashed the foot of a cliff my front door I know I never should’ve closed it A thought crept through my mind I thought I’d see you there How do you pass the time? The walls I sit and stare Turns out all the world is a room all the world in one little room

This song came along It’s almost wholly in my own style It took some time This one took a while It don’t look like the sea It ain’t no symphony It don't have dirty hands It will not be part of the weather It’s a quote of a quote A footnote to a footnote So what makes me I’m neither and I’m both Kidding around all the time At the risk of repeating myself I come and go In me as though You might move From room to room A photograph of me Taking photos of the sea Plotting a winding path On a decades long graph Kidding around all the time At the risk of repeating myself I sit where I always sit A bookshelf with books on it I carted from place to place Staring me in the face It begins this way Talismans of the past It took some time Took until the last Kidding around all the time At the risk of repeating myself [instrumental] Going forward looking back Drifting further from My point of start How I miss that place It’s 1979 I’m spraying water on Straw coloured grass A dead or dying lawn Kidding around all the time At the risk of repeating myself It’s 1991 Curtains blow in and out I'm in a green suit And things are heading south Skipping through time It’s 1999 Another century It was mine Kidding around all the time At the risk of repeating myself

Hear the knocking on my door No she don’t live here no more Walk to the corner of my street And I’m dragging my feet Turned a corner thought I saw you there Into the middle distance I stare Maybe just a trick of the light Caught the corner of my eye I see, I see you What do, what do, what do I see? I walk to the corner of the room Blend to the background I assume A posture so non-descript For social occasions I’m ill equipped In the corner on my left The host is looking so bereft In the corner on my right Out the corner of my eye I see, I see you What do, what do, what do I see? I never seen it before Oh before my eyes I never seen it before, oo-ooh I see, I see you What do, what do, what do I see?
4.
Maybe I’ll just disappear Fade from sight, but do not fear Baby you’ll never fade away Forever live, in a melody Staring on, photo on the sleeve In the song, Incident on South Dowling Street Wrote a song, without a beat How you lay dyin’ a mere four feet From his arms and out of reach And in his song, you’ll forever be Staring on, photo on the sleeve In the song, Incident on South Dowling Street [instrumental] Staring on, photo on the sleeve In the song, Incident on South Dowling Street I’m, saying I’m right Is it a man? Have I seen the light? I could be wrong Is it a bird? Who’s ever heard Heard of a song A song about a song (about a song)
5.
Another year, another one So I tallied up everything I done Searched my mind and as I feared For all that’s gone and there’s nothing here And I learned I was waiting for the wheel to turn And it turned Oh it turned I knuckled down, I worked on it Got a dead end job, renting a bedsit She said whatever it is, your fortunes bring The weight of its worth is in the waiting But I don’t learn Pulled the pin on which my fate would turn And it turned Oh it turned [instrumental] And I learned I was waiting for the wheel to turn And it turned Oh it turned It turns, it turns Oh how the wheel it turns
6.
On the shelf of the junk store Found an album cover of An image of the city from above On the back cover Of that album I discover Is it a phantom or the mirror image of? A place that time forgot On the other side (of this) In a mirror life On the surface how it gleams Yeah it’s burstin’ at the seams And I can’t help but feel Somehow set apart But it’s the places that remain The vacant lots and dusty lanes A shadow of a place that time forgot That’s the place I’m thinking of On the other side (of this) In a mirror life [instrumental] On the other side (of this) In a mirror life
7.
I don’t know why I am me Born of the earth Stars and the sea I am no foe No enemy I have no choice I am a tree

Some Tricks 02:35
Some tricks take you down slow Some take no time at all There ain’t nobody to call My advice is let it go Some tricks seem to go fine Some wither on the vine You hear about it all the time But luck ain’t a friend of mine Your debt ain’t settled yet And there ain’t no public waiting For this masterpiece you’re painting Something different ay? Beats painting walls, walls Some tricks take you down slow Some take no time at all There ain’t nobody to call My advice is let it go Your bed now lie in it And your deadline is looming And you’ll tell me if I’m wrong, assuming That we’ll all get paid If we’re paid at all, all [instrumental] Your debt, aint settled yet And their offer’s so inviting Come and talk about this book you’re writing Will you pick up When commerce calls? Calls Some tricks…

I should have stayed at home should have stayed at home I should have stayed at home should have stayed at home Breathe in / breathe out I should have hung around should have been around I should have hung around should have been around Breathe in / breathe out [instrumental] I should have stayed at home should have stayed at home I should have stayed at home should have stayed at home Breathe in / breathe out

Building a house or a love it’s all building brick by brick hand over hand over the years I’ve been learning While you’ve been busy making plans I’ll raise your roof skyways, and I’ll lay the bricks on your driveways, and Through your doors I’ll walk my ways To a room on your sunny side The pitch of a roof Of timber and tiling But it’s on you that I got stuck For all the talk Wish we were pillow talking Instead of talking shop I’ll raise your roof skyways, and I’ll lay the bricks on your driveways, and Through your doors I’ll walk my ways To a room on your sunny side [instrumental] I’ll raise your roof skyways, and I’ll lay the bricks on your driveways, and Through your doors I’ll walk my ways To a room on your sunny side
11.
The past is a shadow that forever follows you Where you go what you do Where there is a shadow there must be a light and it’s Pushing, pulling me to and fro From pillar to post Hell and water high Darling you ain’t seen a ghost it just Hasn’t led me back this way for a long time Though I am weary I keep walking on over Same old ground rarely new And I’ll sigh the lack of things that I sought And wail all my old woes anew, time moves on Like a heavenly host I follow its light Darling you ain’t seen a ghost it just Hasn’t led me back this way in a long time

I’ve been thinking I’ve been thinking thinking I’ve been thinking I’ve been thinking of you I’ve been thinking I’ve been thinking thinking I’ve been drinking I’ve been thinking of you And the times that we Times that We drew our chairs Under the old plum tree It was blooming and Musical with bees I felt like a king Underneath a king’s canopy When I’m thinking Can’t stop thinking thinking Can’t stop thinking I’ve been thinking a bit too I’ve been thinking I’ve been thinking thinking I’ve been drinking I’ve been drinking for two Or maybe for three Wonderful eyes As blue as blue can be It’s like the sky was smiling Smiling down on me Down through the leaves And branches of a king’s canopy I’ve been thinking I’ve been thinking thinking I’ve been drinking I’ve been drinking a bit too Too much It seems [instrumental] We drew our chairs Under the old plum tree It was blooming and Musical with bees I felt like a king Underneath a king’s canopy Underneath a king’s canopy (I’ve been thinking)

about

‘Dream Buffet is brilliant. Restless Leg have a huge selection of colours on which to paint on their sparkling canvas, creating a vivid and layered whole. Their influences are ever present but remain merely a signpost to the direction the band travels and never part of the journey itself. It is a very nice journey indeed.’
8.6/10 Arun Kendall – Backseat Mafia

‘[On Dream Buffet] Sydney’s Restless Leg happily swing between up and moving and more inward looking, walking the line between semi-sunshine and shade. The effect, musically and lyrically, is of a band a little more curbed by life and some bitterness, but not yet fettered. You can imagine them working on different angles of this template for another decade or two, consistently inviting and satisfying, with maybe a bit less faith in humanity each time.’
Bernard Zuel – bernardzuel.net

‘Sydney’s Restless Leg serve up a feast for the ears on Dream Buffet. Making infectious and hook-laden guitar-pop, their sparkling third record is plush, full of imagery and is a pandemic-era album for the ages.’

RESTLESS LEG – DREAM BUFFET BIO

Restless Leg (RL) formed when band mates guitarist/vocalist Ben Chamie (Peabody) and drummer Jared Harrison (Peabody, Infinity Broke, Bluebottle Kiss), found themselves at a musical loose end. With long-time friend Fiona Whalley (The Exile Co.) recruited on bass, RL was born, debuting on a Saturday in March 2012 at a party in an Erskineville backyard, with less than two weeks of rehearsals under their belts.

RL had a busy first year playing the usual Sydney dive bars and culminating in the recording of its self-titled debut album over three days with engineer/producer Tim Kevin at his Tempe River Studios.

The band’s quick-fire formation and recording of its self-titled debut led to lean and direct song arrangements recalling classic indie references such as The Go-Betweens and Smudge. But this belies the fact that some of the songs on RL’s self-titled debut were written over a number of years and are imbued with a long view of indie pop music drawing a line from Ray Davies’ observational pop classics to the Modern Lovers’ laments of life in the suburbs.

In the years following the release of Restless Leg in 2013, the band played numerous live shows. Its members had kids, moved houses, changed jobs… lives were lived.

Like RL’s debut album, its follow-up, Some Kind of Restless (SKoR), also summoned some sepia-toned reminiscences of the past yet this new batch of songs clearly weren’t cooked up in the mind of some coddled rock star. Rather, they were gleaned from the tedium, elation, reward and disappointment of a life lived in the real world and reflected in the grainy photograph of the red-brick house on the album’s cover.

Recorded and mixed over two years, SkoR was released in October 2017. It features richer production than their debut and takes in a broader sweep of musical influences, from The Pixies to The Black Lips, Stereolab and The Chills.

To recreate SKoR live, guitarist Adam Taylor (Sam Shinazzi Band) was invited to join the group. The subsequent gigs showcased the band's broadened palette of sounds, building on the jangly six-string guitars and interplay of the rhythm section’s jostling beats and bass lines.

SKoR was launched with the help of brilliant Sydney indie rockers Hoolahan and up and comers (at the time) Moody Beach. Subsequent shows included the South by South Coast Festival headlined by Custard and gigs with the likes of Victoria (feat. members of Smudge, Youth Group and Songs) and teen sensations The Nagging Doubts.

By the end of 2019 RL were road-testing new songs while continuing to write and rehearse for a new album. Early in 2020, RL reached out to Jamie Hutchings (Bluebottle Kiss, Infinity Broke, The Tall Grass) to produce the next record. As well as being a friend (and former bandmate with Jared), Jamie has produced albums by Mark Moldre, Peabody and The Maladies.

Recorded over five days at Lost Sound Recording Studio in the inner-Sydney suburb of Marrickville. A host of guest musicians added flute, recorder, piano, organ and violin to the guitars, bass, drums, Casio keyboard, shakers, handclaps and other percussion instruments played by the band members themselves.

Equal parts Flying Nun indie-rock, Velvet Underground inspired drone and shambolic Pavement-tinged country, producer and band have conjured a smorgasbord of imagery, stories, poetry, half-baked schemes and overcooked memories to fully realise the character and eccentricities of the songs that make Dream Buffet.
